Dr. George R. Angehr was a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in Panama. An internationally renowned ornithologist, he conducted large-scale biodiversity surveys in Panama, Peru, and Gabon and an analysis of Panama’s protected area system as part of an Important Bird Areas Program for Panama. Dr. Angehr was also a foremost authority on tropical ecology, and served as a curator or advisor on a number of international exhibitions on tropical biology and conservation, including STRI’s “Parting the Green Curtain” and an exhibition on “The United Nations Environment Program and Biodiversity.” His contributions have been fundamental to the rigor and international prestige of the pioneer Tourism-Conservation-Research Action Plan for the Republic of Panama (https://www.pangeaworld.com/foundations/pilot-project-panama/) and have played prominently in shaping the Pangea World journey.
